Morocco Wins Bid to Host 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Outscoring Rivals

The executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has, during its meeting held on Wednesday, September 27 at its headquarters in Cairo, designated Morocco as the host country for the 2025 CAN and the Kenya-Uganda-Tanzania trio for the 2027 edition. Favorite to host the competition, the kingdom obtained the best score.
Favorite for CAN 2025, Morocco was awarded the organization of the competition after the last-minute withdrawal of the files of its competitors. According to a photograph of the summary of the CAF evaluation report relayed by the journalist Antar Abdelwarit on his X account, Morocco obtained the best score against its competitors. "The Moroccan candidacy stands out from the other candidacies with a technical score of 85/100," we can read in the official document of the CAF. The kingdom thus comes out on top ahead of Algeria (72/100), Zambia (49/100) and the duo composed of Benin and Nigeria (46/100).
The evaluation criteria are 9 in number. We can mention among others, the socio-political situation, the promotion of the event, the vision, the security, the stadiums, the other infrastructures or even the financial capacities to organize the tournament. Morocco obtained the score of 88/100 for the evaluation criterion (stadiums) which counts for 30%, 98 for the vision against 55 for Algeria, 92 for the promotion of the event against 83 points for all its other competitors combined, 73 for the socio-political situation, 63 for the socio-political-economic and environmental aspects, 99/100 on the legal level.
