Morocco Wheat Harvest 2026: Record Yields and Rising Production

Climate and agricultural indicators are positive. With rainfall exceeding the average of the past thirty years by 34% and dam filling rates surging to 70% (compared with 25% last year), the area planted has expanded to 3.7 million hectares. As a result, the National Federation of Cereal and Pulse Traders (FNCL) anticipates total production of 8 to 9 million tonnes, including nearly 5 million tonnes of soft wheat, compared with just 4.4 million tonnes overall last year. Although floods in the northwestern plains damaged approximately 110,000 hectares, the excellent yields expected in other regions will more than offset these losses.

Paradoxically, this climate-driven abundance comes with major challenges for the external supply chain. Severe winter storms have disrupted maritime traffic since mid-December, leaving nearly 70 vessels carrying one million tonnes of wheat stranded offshore from the ports of Casablanca and Jorf Lasfar. Faced with the additional costs caused by these delays, importers are urging the government to extend the subsidy program until June 1. These imports remain crucial, as the Kingdom traditionally sources around two-thirds of its soft wheat requirements from France.
