Morocco Welcomes Spain’s Shift on Western Sahara Dispute

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad indicated on Friday that Morocco is pleased with Spain’s new position and constructive commitments on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
In a message addressed to King Mohammed VI, the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, indicated that he "recognizes the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco". For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "the terms of this message make it possible to envisage a clear and ambitious roadmap in order to durably inscribe the bilateral partnership within the framework of the new bases and parameters" underlined in the royal speech of August 20th.
In this speech, King Mohammed VI had called to "inaugurate an unprecedented stage in the relations between the two countries, and that this be based on trust, transparency, mutual consideration and respect for commitments."
A call quickly seized by Madrid since at the end of this month of March, José Manuel Albares, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, will be on a working visit to Morocco. The Spanish Prime Minister is also expected for a scheduled visit.
