Morocco Water Utility Cashier Arrested in $85,000 Embezzlement Scandal

A sum of 860,000 dirhams has evaporated from the coffers of the agency of the Autonomous Inter-municipal Water and Electricity Distribution Authority (RADEEL) of the province of Larache. Already, the judicial police have arrested a cashier.
At the origin of the discovery of this embezzlement of funds, a financial gap between the amounts collected and the total amount recorded on the invoices at the RADEEL agency in Larache eight months ago, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc. After this rather surprising discovery, RADEEL set up an investigation commission, which revealed that a sum of 860,000 dirhams had disappeared from the agency’s cash register.
After a summary investigation, the elements of the judicial police of Larache proceeded to the arrest of a cashier, considered as the prime suspect in this embezzlement of funds. After being presented to the general prosecutor’s office in charge of financial crimes at the Court of Appeal of Rabat, the defendant is currently in the hands of the investigating judge. In the latter’s sights are also other agents of the RADEEL agency in Larache. They will be summoned to appear in the coming days.
