Moroccan Couple Sentenced for Embezzling $36,000 from National Employment Agency

The criminal chamber near the Court of Appeal of Fez sentenced the director of a cleaning company and her husband, the manager of a training company, to one year in prison with a fine of 10,000 dirhams, for embezzlement of public funds.
The two defendants were ordered to repay the sum of 360,000 dirhams to the National Agency for Employment Promotion and Skills (ANAPEC) and to pay it a lump sum indemnity of 30,000 dirhams in solidarity.
Describing the judge’s decision as not based on a solid legal basis, Assabah reported that the defense had filed a request with the court, requesting the outright acquittal of the accused.
Based on the contract between the agency and the two companies, the judge’s order is obsolete, according to the lawyer, who believes that ANAPEC should not intervene in the modules and schedules of the training.
