Morocco Warns Spain: National Interests Are ’Red Line’ Amid Diplomatic Tensions

The head of government Saädeddine El Othmani is playing the card of firmness towards Spain. He states that "the supreme interests of Morocco are a red line".
"Morocco and Spain are neighboring countries that can have problems from time to time. [...] At the same time, Morocco has supreme interests. Its interests, as well as its sovereignty, are lines on which the kingdom will never give in," said El Othmani during his appearance on the national radio program "Meeting with the press".
The admission of the Polisario leader into a hospital in Logroño, Spain under a false identity and his return to Algeria was not to the liking of the Moroccan authorities. "Our reaction was strong given these attacks on the supreme interests of the kingdom following the reception of the leader of the separatists," explained the head of government.
For him, the northern neighbor had just crossed the red lines. From then on, "a crisis of confidence" set in. "We want to restore this trust so that relations in the future can be rebuilt if they are renewed on a solid basis without any mistrust," wished El Othmani.
