Morocco Urges Mass COVID-19 Vaccination as Delta Variant Cases Surge

The Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, has just called on Moroccans to get vaccinated again. This call comes after a worrying increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent weeks.
Faced with the risk of a rapid next wave due to the more virulent Delta variant, the Moroccan government continues to bet on massive vaccination.
In a statement to the press, Ait Taleb noted the sharp increase in cases of contamination, particularly serious or critical cases admitted to intensive care units, stressing that the people admitted to these units are part of the age group over 50 who were supposed to have already benefited from the vaccination.
According to the minister, these people are vulnerable, with several comorbidity factors, including a large number of diabetic patients. "Unfortunately, these people did not get vaccinated for various reasons, including the choice of vaccine type," the minister noted, explaining that all vaccines confer the same result, namely immunity against severe forms of the disease.
Likewise, many Moroccans did not get vaccinated because they were skeptical and were waiting to see the results of the massive vaccination, noted the minister, adding that the vaccine is a chance for protection that many citizens have unfortunately missed.
In addition to the protection that vaccination will provide for the individual and their entourage, it will allow them to benefit from the vaccine passport, for more freedom and mobility, the minister recalls, inviting Moroccans to go massively to vaccination centers.
