Morocco Upgrades Casablanca Airport Ahead of 2030 World Cup Co-Hosting

In view of Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Spain, the National Airports Office (ONDA) is working on modernizing and developing the infrastructure of Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport. The office has just launched a call for tenders.
Bringing a significant transformation to the experience of passengers and airport users by intervening on various aspects of the surrounding infrastructure. This is the full scope of the project to modernize and develop the infrastructure of Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport. This project also aims to strengthen and redesign the main road leading to the airport from the strategic point located on the regional road RP 3038, with a complete rehabilitation of the road surface, in addition to implementing advanced waterproofing on the two main bridges located within the airport perimeter, which are crucial facilities for ensuring smooth traffic flow. According to the specifications, the total value is estimated at 134,833,560.00 dirhams.
The planned works will begin at the strategic roundabout located on the regional road RP 3038. They will include a series of integrated technical and engineering interventions. A complete topographic survey of the area surrounding the airport is planned, as well as in-depth technical studies aimed at ensuring the quality of the work and its compliance with engineering and safety standards. Preparatory work to create temporary access routes facilitating the passage of machinery and materials, strategically organizing construction areas, and securing the entire site to ensure the safety of workers and facilities will also be undertaken.
Large-scale earthwork and backfilling operations are also planned, as well as precise soil leveling in targeted areas. In some places, particularly at the interchanges leading to the airport, new roads will be entirely constructed according to the latest technical standards and specifications, it is specified. The complete rehabilitation of sidewalks around the airport and the replacement of dilapidated curbs with new and modern ones is also planned. Not to mention the installation of a complete rainwater drainage network, including pipes of different diameters, gullies to collect surface water, and periodic inspection chambers to ensure the network’s efficiency.
A new public lighting system will be installed around the airport, with the installation of new modern streetlights, the extension of the electrical wiring network, and its connection to the existing infrastructure as part of the enhancement of security and comfort, the document specifies. It is also planned to set up a complete video surveillance system using high-tech fixed and mobile cameras to enhance security around the airport and monitor traffic.
