Morocco Unveils 5-Year Plan to Overhaul Health System with Four-Pillar Reform

Khaled Aït Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, unveils his ambitions for the health sector. He intends to implement a reform to guarantee an "exemplary" health system within a period of five years.
This reform will be based on four pillars: good governance, the construction of new generation hospital facilities, the training of new skills, and digitalization, the minister explained in an interview with Le360. "In five years, this reform, based on four pillars, will give a complete and effective health system," he affirmed, announcing that a convention on the development of the training offer for doctors and medical staff will be signed on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, under the chairmanship of the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
Regarding digitalization, Khalid Aït Taleb said that his department is working to provide remote and real-time care by connecting patients and health centers. "The taxpayer’s share in health expenditure, currently 60%, will drop to 25% by 2030 as part of this reform," he announced.
Khalid Aït Taleb also discussed the investment agreement that his ministry has signed with an Israeli company. He said that an amount of 5 billion dirhams will be used to build five hospitals, particularly in Berkane and Essaouira, with a public-private management formula and following a win-win model. "After 10 years, according to the agreement, these hospitals will be the property of the Moroccan state," the minister specified.
