Morocco Unveils Tourism Recovery Plan to Boost Domestic and International Travel

After more than three months of suspension of its activities, the players in the tourism sector are preparing for the resumption. A roadmap has been put in place aimed at the takeoff of the sector through the preservation of employment, skills and the capacities of professionals with sustained attention to domestic tourism.
The Moroccan destination wants to relaunch itself internationally. The purpose of the roadmap is to promote Morocco’s positioning in the world after the health crisis. During her big oral presentation on Monday, the Minister of Tourism revealed the outlines of this vision before the House of Representatives.
This recovery plan aims to promote domestic tourism, through the implementation of a quality offer to meet the expectations of national tourists. For the minister, it is a question of restoring the confidence of the national tourist through the promotion of the local product. Measures related to financial, social and governance aspects are being negotiated to be included in this recovery plan.
The novelty with this relaunch is to structure the sector and generalize social coverage. The first targets of this plan are tourist guides. The objective is to improve their working conditions by subscribing them to an insurance policy.
As for the professionals in the craft sector, a handicap could block the will of the supervising minister: the completion of the process of adopting draft law 50-17 relating to the exercise of craft activities. It will allow the identification of the categories of actors in the sector and, thus, the generalization of social coverage for a large category of craftsmen.
According to Nadia Fettah Alaoui, conventions are being drawn up with the Chambers of Crafts for the promotion of the sector in the different regions of the Kingdom and the establishment of listening cells in the territorial directorates of the ministry.
