Morocco Unveils Plan to Open 150 New Cinemas with Affordable Ticket Prices

The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, announced an ambitious project to open 150 new cinema theaters across the country. There are also plans to make a major effort on ticket prices.
This initiative aims to make films accessible to all Moroccans through symbolic rates, particularly for young people, with tickets not exceeding 20 dirhams, he explained to Al3omk.
The minister emphasized the importance of democratizing access to culture, criticizing current market prices as a barrier to Moroccans attending cinemas and theaters. He also recalled that the majority of the films screened benefit from the support of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center, while noting the limited number of cinemas in the country, currently only 25!
For the official, there is a link between social projects, particularly those related to social protection and the improvement of the health system, and the success of the cultural industry. He claims that improving public health will allow Moroccans to spend more on cultural activities, which are currently relegated to the background in the face of priorities such as education and health.
Similarly, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid addressed the problem of high cinema ticket prices, which, according to him, contribute to the failure of cinemas in Morocco. He announced the gradual opening of 150 new cinemas, with affordable tickets, and said he had managed to convince existing cinemas to also lower their prices for young people.
