Morocco Unveils Plan to Boost Tourism Sector Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Tourism Minister Nadia Fettah announced new measures on Wednesday to revive the tourism sector, which is facing serious difficulties due to the coronavirus. The objective is to "prioritize job retention" and "relieve the cash flow of companies".
Nadia Fettah is committed to succeeding in this bet thanks to the program contract put in place to save this sector, which contributes 7% to the national GDP. In addition to the expected measures this week, others are also planned in the coming days, according to the supervising minister. According to her, they should be gradually implemented depending on the evolution of the situation.
The government member also assures that the managers of her department have collected the expectations and grievances of the sector’s operators: "We have therefore mapped out the prospects for 2021 and 2022, it being understood that the latter will be the subject of a permanent and responsible evaluation, and will therefore be revisited and adjusted according to the development of the situation".
The revival of the sector also takes into account the security of the most vulnerable players in the sector as well as the support of the operators. For this category, it will be a question of rethinking their business model and giving them ideas on the transformation opportunities that the post-coronavirus sector will experience, we are told.
In addition, the minister has looked at the weight of the informal sector in the sector, which dealt a fatal blow to tourism operators during the health crisis.
