Morocco Unveils National Strategy to Revive Tourism Sector Post-COVID

Tourism is one of the sectors hit hard by the health crisis related to Covid-19. The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) proposes a national recovery strategy.
The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) has made several recommendations to revive Moroccan tourism, hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, reports the newspaper Les Inspirations ECO. These include the establishment of a framework law on tourism, the promotion of integrated strategic planning, involving the convergence of means and resources and monitoring-evaluation for the entire value chain, the operationalization of the Moroccan charter of sustainable tourism and the contribution through the tax system to the promotion of sustainable, productive investments, job creators and catalysts of value at the host territory level. There is also the question of implementing a "365-day Tourism" approach. This approach is based on the development of new segments that are less dependent on weather conditions and oriented towards qualitative performance criteria such as foreign exchange earnings and average length of stay, it is explained.
Other recommendations: the promotion of cultural tourism essential to develop traditional markets and attract new markets (Chinese, Russian, etc.), ecotourism, rural tourism and adventure tourism whose offer can be adapted according to the seasons and the specificities of each region, but also medical tourism, wellness tourism, as well as tourism adapted to seniors and retirees for long stays, domestic tourism for which the creation of products adapted to purchasing power is proposed, social and solidarity tourism, the development of youth hostels and the development of an adequate offer for Moroccans living abroad. Not to mention the promotion of sustainable tourist destinations and products through communication, connectivity and digitization.
