Morocco Unveils National Photography Museum in Rabat, Showcasing Emerging Talent

The city of Rabat has been home to a new national photography museum since Tuesday, January 14. Initiated by the National Museums Foundation, its inauguration within the walls of the Fort Rottembourg aims to enrich the mapping of museums in Morocco.
At the forefront of the new museum’s activities is a selection of works by emerging young photographers, presented by the internationally renowned Casablanca photographer Yassine Alaoui Ismaili, alias "Yoriyas". Titled "Sourtna", this inaugural exhibition marks the start of the 2020 cultural year, and gives Alaoui Ismaili the opportunity to give visibility to young talents.
The President of the National Museums Foundation, Mehdi Qotbi, told the press that the inauguration of the National Photography Museum is part of the logic of promoting the democratization of culture. "In this place, Fort Rottembourg, full of history and close to a popular neighborhood, we make sure that culture is within the reach of every Moroccan," he observed, before noting that "it is no longer the people of the popular neighborhoods who must move towards culture, but the essential thing is to make culture accessible to them".
As for Yassine Alaoui Ismaili, who is the curator of the "Sourtna" exhibition, he expressed his determination to make this exhibition a intergenerational bridge, a new experience in the service of cultural development and the promotion of young talents.
