Morocco Unveils Major Outlet Project Near Tetouan, Challenging Ceuta’s Retail Draw

Tanger Med Zones, the developer subsidiary of the Tanger Med group, announced on Monday the launch of an outlet project in the new commercial area located between Tetouan and M’diq, at the level of Cabo Negro. A way to directly attack the main attraction of Ceuta.
Covering an area of 70 hectares, the space will be dedicated to a shopping mall, play areas or restaurants, according to a press release from the management, adding that the project aims to support tourism activity, through the creation of a shopping and leisure destination, capable of smoothing out seasonality and complementing the seaside vocation of the region.
According to the initiators, the first phase of the project, spread over 30 ha, will be delivered in April 2022. The area already has a first prestigious host, namely Ikea, which has already started the construction of a new store on an area of more than 3 ha with 19,000 m² covered.
A Call for Expressions of Interest for the selection of investors/operators for the development of the outlet project will be published on November 29, 2021, specifies a press release, in order to select a specialized investor/operator, with the required skills and know-how for the development, promotion and management of outlet projects.
Tanger Med Zones has already enabled the creation of 1,100 companies and generated nearly 90,000 jobs, we learn.
This installation in the Tetouan region is not a coincidence. Many Moroccans used to go to Ceuta to do their shopping, spend their money and especially their foreign currency. Now that the border is closed and the Moroccan authorities are implementing many projects for the "mule women", it is time to directly attack Ceuta and its main attraction, namely cheap prices and products.
