Morocco Unveils New Health Guidelines for Hotels Reopening Amid Pandemic

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the National Confederation of Tourism and the supervisory ministry, are studying a strategy to put in place a specifications summary of the new health measures to be respected, as part of the resumption of hotel and tourism activities.
Hotels will now have to comply with a battery of new measures, developed by a consulting firm, before being able to obtain an operating permit from the Ministry of Tourism, notes the daily Assabah.
To ensure the application of the safety instructions by hotels and accommodation establishments, ministerial commissions have been formed in order to regularly ensure compliance with the health conditions, adds the daily, specifying that any offender would be exposed to the withdrawal of the authorization.
Among the new measures imposed by the supervisory ministries, the daily cites the need to have a thermometer at the entrance of the establishment, and the reduction of the reception capacity by half, particularly in the lobby, swimming pools and cafeterias.
According to a study conducted by the National Confederation of Tourism and the Moroccan National Tourist Office, the losses caused by the suspension of air links and the closure of borders on the hotel sector since the beginning of the pandemic are estimated at 34 billion dirhams.
