Morocco Unveils Enhanced National ID Card with Digital Features and Improved Security

Since Thursday, the new identity card has come into effect and offers, according to the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), much more advantages and security.
The launch of this new generation of CNIE by the DGSN comes "to accompany the digitalization of the administration". It facilitates "the access of citizens to the various services", the Directorate has announced in a descriptive spot of the various services and technical innovations offered by this Card.
It cannot, it is affirmed, be falsified, and has been produced in Arabic, Amazigh and French languages and even accompanied by sign language. According to the police, the CNIE is reliable, fast, secure and allows "to avoid data entry errors in personal data. It is equipped with a PIN code specific to each citizen, handed over with the card", reports the MAP.
The documents required for the establishment of the CNIE have not undergone any change. Citizens can go to the www.cnie.ma, an electronic portal through which "they can fill out a pre-application form, make an appointment and follow the steps to obtain their card".
Nevertheless, the old cards remain valid until the expiry of their validity dates or when there is a change in the data they contain. Those who wish to have the CNIE "can apply for a renewal of their cards even if they are still valid", specifies the same source.
