Morocco Unveils Austerity Measures to Fund Coronavirus Response

An emergency inter-ministerial meeting agreed on the need to adopt an austerity policy in the management of the state budget, in order to deal with the risk of the spread of Coronavirus.
To this end, the council agreed on a battery of drastic measures to finance the special fund dedicated to the management of the pandemic, ordered by King Mohammed VI.
In addition to reducing management and investment expenditures, several secondary programs will be canceled on this occasion. The Council of Government should announce the measures taken, which mainly concern the budgets allocated to municipal development programs.
Apart from the projects launched during the 2019 fiscal year, the financing of complementary programs, including the acquisition of the new state vehicle fleet, will be suspended until further notice.
