Morocco Boosts ICU Capacity: King Orders 3,000 New Beds to Combat Coronavirus

Faced with the coronavirus pandemic, King Mohammed VI has instructed the government council to strengthen the absorption capacity of intensive care services in hospitals. A total of 3,000 additional intensive care beds will be set up.
With the "royal directives, the health authorities are doing their utmost to counter the effects of the spread of the coronavirus, by strengthening the clinical intensive care capacity," explained Saâdeddine El Othmani to the members of the government. In this sense, Morocco has acquired 3,000 beds, the head of government said. Before this acquisition, the clinical intensive care capacity is estimated at 1,640 beds.
The instructions of King Mohammed VI, concerning the allocation of resources from the Special Fund for the management of the coronavirus pandemic, are focused on three areas: covering the costs of upgrading the medical system, supporting the national economy to cope with the shocks induced by this pandemic, and then preserving jobs and mitigating the social repercussions of covid-19.
