Morocco Unveils $600 Million Tourism Plan to Attract 17.5 Million Visitors by 2026

Its objective is to attract 17.5 million tourists, reach 120 billion in foreign exchange earnings, create 80,000 direct jobs and 120,000 indirect jobs, as well as reposition tourism as a key sector in the national economy. The budget allocated for this project is 6.1 billion dirhams.
To achieve these ambitious goals, the roadmap is based on a new logic of supply structured around the customer experience and organized around nine thematic sectors and five cross-cutting sectors. It also provides for an offensive plan on several points, including:
• Doubling of air capacity
• Strengthening of promotion and marketing
• Diversification of cultural and leisure entertainment products
• Upgrading of the existing hotel stock
• Creation of new hotel capacities
• Strengthening of human capital.
A new governance has been put in place through the creation of a National Interministerial Tourism Commission (CNIT) chaired by the Head of Government. To ensure the success of this roadmap, central and regional animation structures, institutional dialogue-boosting laboratories between the public and private sectors, as well as a multidisciplinary team have been set up. The roadmap should enable a quantitative and qualitative leap, ensuring an impeccable customer experience and positioning Morocco among the world’s top tourist destinations.
