Morocco Unveils $450 Million Plan to Modernize Shipbuilding Industry by 2030

After establishing itself in the automotive and aeronautics sectors, Morocco wants to revolutionize the naval industry, both civilian and military. In this sense, it is implementing a major project.
With a total cost of around 4.5 billion dirhams, this program aims to equip Morocco with a state-of-the-art shipbuilding industry by 2030, to maintain the national civilian and military fleet, and to develop the activity of ship dismantling and make it a major source of supply for the national steel industry. The State, the National Ports Agency (ANP) and professionals within the framework of the public-private partnership, will mobilize this investment.
As part of this program, new shipyards will be built after the one in Casablanca which is in its final phase. The new shipyards will open in Safi, Jorf Lasfar, Kenitra, Nador and Dakhla, while those in Agadir and Tan Tan will be rehabilitated, specifies Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. According to the same source, military, fishing, pleasure, cargo ships will be repaired and built there.
Following the publication of the call for tenders for the concession of the development, equipment, operation and maintenance of the new shipyard of the port of the metropolis, the ANP will proceed to the opening of the bids in March.
