Morocco Unlocks 12,000 Hectares of Collective Land for Investment

In Morocco, the Ministry of the Interior is working to strengthen partnerships with public and private actors in order to increase investment in the collective lands available in the prefectures and provinces of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
Responding to a parliamentary question, Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, said that his department has mobilized about 12,000 hectares of collective lands distributed across the prefectures and provinces of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region for investment purposes. In total, 1,042 hectares have been mobilized, including 384 hectares subdivided and 233 hectares leased by lease contracts, in addition to the legal regularization of about 3,150 hectares of illegally exploited lands mobilized in the province of Sidi Kacem.

A total of 2,296 hectares have been reserved for agricultural investment, divided into several phases in the province of Sidi Slimane. In 2021, 29 plots, covering an area of 689.78 hectares, have been leased for investment projects currently under implementation, the minister said, adding that the files relating to the mobilization of an additional 1,424 hectares are still under examination.
In the province of Khémisset, 1,615 hectares have been allocated to the realization of 15 investment projects of an agricultural and commercial nature, while 6,200 hectares of urban and peri-urban lands have been mobilized for the benefit of public and private actors in the province of Kénitra. Laftit also said that 286 lease requests, covering an area of 7,411 hectares, have been examined. 173 requests, representing 5,997 hectares, have been approved, while 2,357.34 hectares have been transferred.
