Morocco’s University Dropout Crisis: Nearly Half of Students Leave Without Degree

Dropping out of university continues to dictate its law with a rate that raises concern. While nearly 16.5% of new students dropped out of their studies during the new academic year, 47.2% did so without obtaining a degree.
These are figures put forward in the House of Councillors by the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Saaid Amzazi. He was there to explain the main axes of the university education reform.
The minister, during his presentation, gave figures that suggest that dropout remains a major difficulty for university education. He also mentioned that only 13.3% of university students obtain their bachelor’s degree in 3 years.
The phenomenon of wastage or school failure costs the state more than 3.7 billion dirhams each year, the minister stressed.
