Morocco’s Unemployment Rate Drops to 8.5% in Second Quarter 2019

In Morocco, the unemployment rate has officially seen a significant decline during the 2nd quarter of 2019.
Decline in the unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2019. According to statistics from the High Commission for Planning (HCP), the rate fell from 9.1% to 8.5% at the national level. The total number of unemployed people reached 1,103,000 people in the 2nd quarter of last year, compared to 1,026,000 in the same period in 2019, a decrease of 77,000 people.
The HCP statistics also show a slight drop in the unemployment rate in urban areas (13.7% to 12.4%) and an increase from 3 to 3.3% in rural areas. Only graduates, adults aged 25 to 34, and young people in the 15 to 24 age group are affected by this decline in unemployment.
The same source indicates that people aged 45 and over and rural women are the most affected by unemployment. The highest rates were recorded among women, at 11.3%, compared to 7.5% for men.
