Morocco’s Unemployment Rate Dips Slightly, Still Above Pre-Pandemic Levels

The unemployment rate in Morocco fell by 0.4 percentage points at the end of June at the national level, according to the Minister of Economy and Finance.
Speaking in parliament on "the execution of the 2022 Budget and the three-year budget programming 2023-2025," Nadia Fettah Alaoui indicated that unemployment has continued the downward trend observed since the first quarter. However, this rate remains 1.6 percentage points higher than the pre-Covid period, she specified.
More specifically, the unemployment rate in urban areas fell by 0.8 percentage points to 16.3% and by 0.2 percentage points to 5.1% in rural areas. And she added that unemployment among young people aged 25 to 34 in urban areas fell by 0.9 percentage points to 25% and among graduates in urban areas, by 0.9 percentage points to 20.8%.
Furthermore, during the period, 183,000 jobs were lost in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors, against the creation of 127,000 jobs in the services, construction, public works and industry sectors, the minister stressed.
