Morocco Turns to Domestic Tourism to Revive Struggling Travel Industry

After the significant financial losses recorded due to the covid-19 health crisis, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) wants to revive tourism in Morocco by relying on domestic demand.
According to L’Économiste, the office management is counting on the domestic tourism card, pending the normal resumption of tourism activities. To succeed in this challenge, the daily recommends that tourism professionals, and particularly hoteliers, review their pricing policy and concoct a preferential rate for nationals. It is necessary to "avoid considering domestic tourism as the fifth wheel of the carriage which is only interested in when the international situation is bad," deplores the same source.
Often considered as a "stopgap", domestic tourism represents only 30% of hotel arrivals in "the absence of a real long-term, price and supply policy."
To this end, a #3lamantla9aw campaign has been launched. It aims to "highlight the human resources that build the image of Morocco, and mobilize the entire tourism sector. It also intends to involve all Moroccans, the reference people, the influencers and, finally, to raise awareness of "made in Morocco"
