Morocco’s Treasury Debt Nears 1 Trillion Dirhams, Up 8% from 2021

For the year 2022 that is coming to an end, the Treasury’s debt would be around 958 billion dirhams (BMDH), while in 2021 it was 885 BMDH, according to Attijari Global Research (AGR).
At the end of November 2022, the total debt was 927 BMDH. AGR’s forecasts take into account the evolution of budget items which shows that the Treasury is able to control its 2022 budget deficit.
Thus, according to these forecasts, domestic debt should reach 734 BMDH in 2022, up +7.6% compared to 2021, while external debt should increase by 10.1%, from 204 BMDH in 2021 to 224 BMDH in 2022.
As for the weight of external debt in the Treasury’s total indebtedness, it should remain at the same level at the end of the year.
