Morocco’s Transport Minister Addresses Soaring Royal Air Maroc Ticket Prices

Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, explains why the national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) offers or should offer airline tickets whose prices are skyrocketing.
Intervening during the meeting of the thematic group in charge of preparing the annual evaluation session of public policies in the field of tourism on Wednesday at the House of Advisors, Mohamed Abdeljalil explained that "domestic air transport has declined because the company Royal Air Maroc (RAM) was forced to return a number of aircraft during the Covid-19 crisis at the request of the previous government for financial reasons." From his explanations, it appears that the previous government had asked RAM to put 10 aircraft back on the market, to ensure financial balance, as it was unable to financially support the company for the purchase of these aircraft during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is in the process of recovering these aircraft, the minister said, assuring that this action will help strengthen domestic air transport in Morocco to reach a rate of 100% instead of 90% currently. In addition, the company could operate the domestic routes that were scheduled before the decision to acquire these aircraft. But the purchase of these aircraft will be more expensive for RAM due to a significant shortage of aircraft on the global market. Their acquisition in this context of high prices does not allow for the offering of affordable airline tickets, and consequently, the aircraft will not be full, fears Mohamed Abdeljalil.
