Morocco Tourism Surges to Record High Despite September Earthquake

More than 960,000 tourists visited Morocco in September 2023, an increase of 7% compared to the same month last year, the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy announced on Tuesday.
"Moroccan tourism is recording a record number of arrivals in September, despite the earthquake [...] This month is a surprise by exceeding the arrivals of September 2019 and 2022," the ministry said, specifying that 11.1 million tourists have already arrived in the kingdom this year.
"We could not have hoped for a better context to announce the record for the month of September, than the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in Marrakech. This is a significant achievement that highlights the attractiveness of our destination, the resilience of our sector, and the effectiveness of the measures taken by our country after the earthquake, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him," said Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Tourism.
And she continued: "Even after this tragic earthquake, the growth of Moroccan tourism is maintained, and we remain determined to reach our goal of 14 million tourists by the end of December 2023." At this rate, forecasts in terms of arrivals and revenues for the last quarter of 2023 could even be exceeded.
