Morocco Tourism Surges 20% Above Pre-Pandemic Levels, Boosting Economy

Tourism in Morocco has shown exceptional figures since the beginning of the year, according to data just published by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy.
Until the end of last May, Morocco welcomed some 5.1 million tourists, an increase of 20% compared to the same period in 2019, which was already a record.
The month of May was particularly distinguished by strong growth of 55% compared to 2019, with 1.1 million tourists arriving in Morocco.
This attendance was of course accompanied by strong economic fallout. Tourism revenues reached 32 billion dirhams at the end of April, an increase of 40% compared to 2019.
The growth is explained by a particularly strong influx from several major source markets. The palm goes to the Spanish, British, Israeli and Italian markets, which show increases of 46%, 29%, 158% and 10% respectively.
