Morocco Tourism Surge Prompts Calls for Increased Flight Capacity

The recovery of tourism is underway in Morocco, but risks slowing down. Hamid Bentahar, president of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), and also president of the CRT of Marrakech, warns of the need to strengthen air service.
"Everything we predicted is happening. Since the recent lifting of the PCR test, the pace of arrivals and bookings is constantly increasing. But the real topical issue is that demand is now so high that we absolutely need to put more planes in order to regain our market share. There are already dates where the supply is saturated due to too high demand," said Hamid Bentahar in an interview with Médias24. To meet this challenge, he calls for encouraging airlines and tour operators to inject more airline seats.
"If we don’t put enough planes, one of the additional consequences will be that airfares will go up. It’s the law of supply and demand. And if that happens, the problem then is that we risk no longer being competitive," explained the president of the CNT, calling for the need to act sooner. "We have to think about the whole of 2022 and even 2023 and the coming years. The establishment of new routes, the programming of Morocco by foreign companies are not things that are decided overnight. We have to get started today for medium and long-term results."
