Morocco Tourism Soars: Record 9.27 Million Arrivals in 2019, ONMT Reports

The achievements of 2019 and the 2020 action plan of Moroccan tourism have just been unveiled. This was at the end of the recent board of directors meeting held by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) which presented the sector’s performance.
Moroccan tourism is achieving good scores and reassuring with its beautiful prospects. This is what emerges from the figures made public by the ONMT board of directors. According to the published figures, 9.27 million arrivals at border posts and 17 million overnight stays were recorded by the end of August, i.e. a growth of +6.4% compared to the 2018 financial year. During this time, an upturn was also recorded in domestic tourism (+10% in overnight stays).
This year, according to the same source, saw the progress of several projects validated during the last board of directors meeting in June 2019. These include the launch of several tenders, including: e-reputation and deployment of the Morocco destination on social media, the new domestic tourism campaign, studies of national and international demand, as well as the implementation of a new 100% Digital stand concept.
Launched during the World Travel Market in London, the latter will then be redeployed on all Moroccan stands, notes the same source. In addition, the ONMT has successfully carried out a charm offensive by signing new partnerships with major global operators, including the Chinese giant "C-trip" and the British tour operator "Easy Jet Holiday". This allowed it to generate 2.7 million contracted customers, an increase of 50% compared to the 2018 financial year.
It should be noted that 59 new routes have been opened, thanks to several air partnership contracts. All of this has resulted in an increase in capacity of more than 776,000 seats, i.e. 7% more compared to the 2018 financial year, notes the same source.
