Morocco's Tourism Soars: 8.9 Million Visitors in 2025 as Country Expands Air Routes and Hotels

Morocco welcomed 8.9 million visitors in the first half of 2025, an increase of 19% representing 1.4 million additional tourists compared to the same period in 2024. These figures confirm the kingdom’s leading position in tourism in Africa.

"These results confirm the attractiveness of vacations in Morocco and our ability to attract an increasing number of tourists," said the Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor. And she added: "We are entering the second half of the year with two priority projects, namely the strengthening of air transport and the acceleration of the development of accommodation and entertainment offerings to satisfy an increasingly demanding clientele." This performance augurs well for the second half of 2025. This summer season is on track to break records, with the massive arrival of tourists from North America, Europe and the Middle East, regions where searches and bookings for Morocco have recorded a significant increase, according to online booking platforms and airlines.

To maintain this trend, Morocco has set two objectives: to improve air connectivity and to accelerate the development of the hotel offer. As part of the first, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) is working with partner airlines (Transavia, Ryanair, etc.) to ensure better air coverage of the kingdom. At least 40 direct flights are planned for the summer season of 2025. Also, as part of the "Airports 2030" plan launched by the National Airports Office (ONDA) and aimed at modernizing airport infrastructure, the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca will see its capacity increase from 14 to 35 million passengers by 2029. Extension work is also planned in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier and Fez.

Regarding the second objective, a program to modernize existing hotels is underway, thanks to the Cap Hospitality mechanism. Similarly, some 200 hotels are in the project or under construction for an opening by 2030, the year when Morocco will co-host the Football World Cup with Spain and Portugal. At the same time, the ONMT offers a diversified tourist offer, including vacations in the Sahara, or the High Atlas where visitors can discover Berber culture, visit historic kasbahs such as that of Aït Ben Haddou, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy the souks. All at affordable prices: 20 to 80 euros for a night in a guesthouse or local hotel, dishes for around 5 to 15 euros in restaurants and guided tours starting at 25 euros per person for a half-day.
