Morocco’s Tourism Sector Struggles with Covid-19 Aid Distribution

In Morocco, the Covid-19 allowance escapes employees and interns under insertion contracts on temporary layoff in the tourism sector. The number of beneficiaries is the cause.
While the CNSS portal for the declaration of employees and interns under insertion contracts on temporary layoff in the tourism industry is online, the influx is not there. Few of the companies concerned (classified hotels, guides, travel agencies and approved tourist transport companies) are declaring their employees and interns under insertion contracts who are to benefit from a monthly allowance of 2,000 DH during the period from July 1 to the end of December 2020, observes Challenge.ma.
"The issue of the eligible population is problematic for most tourism operators. We discussed it at length with the supervisory authority who says they don’t have the solution," explains a hotelier. Tourism professionals claim to have nearly 500,000 people eligible for the Covid-19 allowance, while the government says 120,000 people are eligible. "In hotels, for example, we have seasonal staff who work alongside permanent employees," tries to justify another hotelier. The war of figures complicates the situation of the beneficiaries.
