Morocco’s Tourism Revenue Surges 173%, Nearing Pre-Pandemic Levels

The recovery of tourism activity observed since the reopening of borders is being confirmed in Morocco. At the end of May, revenues reached 20 billion dirhams, up 173% compared to 2021.
Questioned in parliament on "encouraging domestic tourism and preparations for the tourist season", Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor indicated that Moroccan tourism is regaining its colors, specifying that revenues, at the end of May, show a recovery rate of 71% compared to 2019. The number of tourists reached 2.3 million, or a recovery rate of 52% compared to 2019, she added.
Regarding the number of overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments in the regions, the minister stressed that it has tripled in Marrakech and Agadir and doubled in several other destinations such as Tangier, Errachidia, Dakhla, Rabat and Casablanca.
She added that a recovery rate of 100% overnight stays was recorded in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, 86% in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, 76% in Béni Mellal-Khénifra and the Oriental and 66% at the level of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region.
This trend was obtained thanks to "the wisdom with which Morocco has managed the crisis, which has allowed the Kingdom to maintain its attractiveness and credibility, as well as the involvement of all the players in the sector, including professionals," she said.
