Morocco’s Tourism Revenue Soars 80% as International Travel Rebounds

Tourism revenues are set at 9.7 billion dirhams at the end of last March, up 80%
compared to the same period last year.
This improvement observed since the resumption of international flights continues, says Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, questioned by parliamentarians on "the measures taken in favor of the tourism sector". According to the official, this vital sector of the Moroccan economy is receiving special attention from the government.
In detail, several support measures have been taken by the executive to boost the recovery of the sector, which was heavily impacted by the health crisis, the minister specified. These include the 2 BMDH emergency plan, the payment of the lump-sum allowance of 2,000 dirhams before Eid Al-Fitr for all employees in the sector, tourist carriers and classified restaurants, and the postponement of the repayment of bank loan maturities for tourism companies.
In addition, there are hundreds of requests for renovation of hotel establishments submitted to benefit from state aid and the deployment of a large advertising and marketing campaign to relaunch the sector, with the aim of doubling the number of arrivals by 2030.
Regarding crafts, Fatim-Zahra Ammor said that work is being done in the sector through the strengthening of the legal and regulatory framework relating to craft activities and medical coverage, and the implementation of the national craft registry platform which organizes 172 trades, noting that 96,000 professionals are registered there. Craft exports, for their part, showed a 25% increase over the same period.
