Morocco’s Tourism Revenue Plummets by $1.3 Billion in First Four Months of 2021

Tourism revenues are still declining since the beginning of the year in Morocco, says the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), forecasting a decline of 12.3 billion dirhams (MMDH) from January to April.
"At the end of April 2021, the downward trend in tourism revenues continued, declining by 65.7% or 12.3 billion dirhams, after a withdrawal of 18.2% a year earlier," the DEPF said in its recent economic note.
Regarding tourist arrivals this year, the note reports an overall decline of 81.5% for the first two months, specifying that the arrivals of foreign tourists have seen a decline of 91.9% while Moroccans living abroad have seen their number of arrivals drop by 65.4%.
Regarding overnight stays during the first four months of the year, the trend is also downward and shows a 78.1% loss, including -92.3% for non-residents and -43.8% for residents.
