Morocco’s Tourism Revenue Doubles, Nears Pre-Pandemic Levels

With the Marhaba Operation 2022 and the resumption of tourism activities, the sector is returning to a recovery rate before the health crisis, according to the monthly report of the Office des Changes published on Monday, October 3.
For a sector that was barely generating 20 billion in revenue, the last eight months have been very prosperous for national tourism with 52.2 billion dirhams, an increase of 112.1%. In its activity report, the Office des Changes indicates that "tourism revenues in August approached the level they had reached at the same period in 2019, when they had reached 52.68 billion dirhams."
These figures represent a real breath of fresh air for industry professionals who thought they would never recover from the effects of the crisis. The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, had revealed that 3.2 million tourists, including 2 million Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), spent the summer holidays in Morocco. This caused the figures for tourist arrivals to explode.
Similarly, according to Bank Al Maghrib’s forecasts, travel revenues will reach 79.8 billion dirhams this year.
