Morocco Tourism Prices Surge, Driving Locals to Vacation Abroad

The Moroccan Federation of Consumer Rights calls for the fight against unscrupulous merchants who offer tourist services at exorbitant prices, forcing many Moroccans to spend the summer vacations abroad.
In a statement, the Moroccan Federation of Consumer Rights denounces the greed, fraud and deception of certain tourism promoters. According to them, these immoral behaviors have affected all tourist services, forcing many Moroccans to spend their vacations abroad. "The Moroccan citizen, if he has the financial means, turns directly to abroad to spend his holidays, where he benefits from the same services at very competitive prices compared to the national offers," explained the federation.
Faced with this situation that undermines domestic tourism, the Moroccan Federation of Consumer Rights calls for "the development of all Moroccan beaches as well as the interior and mountainous regions with the necessary tourist parks, and the creation of an independent institution from the Ministry of Tourism to monitor the quality of tourist services in order to avoid any conflict of interest (party and judge)." It also demands "to link prices to the quality of the product while respecting the law on freedom of prices and competition."
Finally, the federation believes that it is necessary to "fight opportunistic merchants by linking approvals to training and continuity," but also to "offer tourist products to Moroccans at the same prices as those offered to foreigners." It wishes to be associated with the commissions for the classification of tourist establishments, like the participation of representatives of craftsmen.
