Morocco Tourism Officials Meet to Plan Gradual Reopening of Air Routes

The Minister of Tourism, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, the CEO of Royal Air Maroc (RAM) Hamid Addou, the CEO of the ONMT, Adel El Fakir and some representatives of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT) including the president Abdellatif Kabbaj held a crisis meeting on Thursday in Casablanca.
"The purpose of this meeting was to see how to work together on the gradual opening of tourist air routes. This is the beginning of a long-term work that will extend over the coming weeks," said a source to Challenge.ma. According to him, working groups are already working on developing the various scenarios related to the opening of priority routes, because there is no tourism without air travel.
"The working groups set up will discuss with partners and tour operators to study the different recovery scenarios, of course in compliance with the current health measures. We have already had meetings with some partners today. There is a willingness on both sides to start assessing the volume on the most important routes. But for now, no definite date for the opening of these routes has been set yet," the same source said.
During this meeting, the stakeholders nurtured reflections on the ongoing special flights, how to increase traffic, and at the same time, assess the needs of partners. "We believe there is a real card to play for next winter and therefore we need to evaluate the most relevant routes, market by market, with this in mind. We need to prepare for the opening date," the same source said.
The next meeting with the minister will take place on September 21.
