Morocco’s Tourism Industry Reels from Thomas Cook Collapse

In Morocco, the bankruptcy of the legendary tour operator (TO), Thomas Cook, is not without consequences for the many travel agencies and hoteliers. Proof of this, a crisis meeting was even held.
The hotel industry is in difficulty. According to information gathered by the newspaper Le Matin, it is mainly Agadir and Marrakech that will suffer the most from this global crisis.
The daily contacted several professionals who estimate that 60 to 80 hotels would be affected, particularly those marketing "All inclusive" offers.
To stick to the Thomas Cook Morocco website, the "victims" would be more numerous, since the city of Marrakech alone has 90 customers of the global TO.
Meanwhile, in Agadir, there are about forty of them, notes the same source, which also mentions the main travel agencies in the country that are affected.
Faced with this situation, a crisis meeting was held on the initiative of Abdellatif Kabbaj, President of the National Confederation of Tourism and CEO of the Kenzi Hotels Group.
Pending a return to the resolutions of this consultation, it should be noted that this terrible bankruptcy of Thomas Cook goes beyond the British issuing market, dragging with it the French market.
For its part, Morocco received some 683,000 British tourists in 2018, totaling 2.14 million overnight stays, the same source recalls.
