Morocco’s Tourism Industry Pins Recovery Hopes on COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign

The vaccination process that began a few days ago in Morocco is raising so much hope among tourism professionals. Battered by the recession due to the health crisis, these players are eagerly awaiting the dawn of a new era for their sector. The country will be able to become frequentable again, and the sector will regain its breath.
These professionals who hope to finally overcome "the obstacle of the coronavirus pandemic" are placing all their hopes in the vaccine, the only means that can stop the "economic" hemorrhage. For Faouzi Zamrani, vice-president of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), since more than a year that this health crisis has been going on with its share of material and moral losses, "vaccination is the only solution to allow things to return to normal", in this sector which has gone from minus 76.4% at the end of October, to minus 51.8% at the end of November of the past year.
"The annual revenue from tourism during the past year was around 80 billion dirhams, while this year it will not exceed the ceiling of 10 billion dirhams," relays Hespress, citing Mr. Zamrani, who is saddened by this situation, aggravated by the closure of markets, and calling on the government to "find a definitive solution as soon as possible", by immunizing the country against health risks.
The flame of hope is maintained on the side of the supervisory authority, through the signing of a letter of intent with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), committing the two parties to hold for the first time in Morocco, (Marrakech), a Session of the UNWTO General Assembly, the 24th in the 4th quarter of 2021. This is a strong signal and a message of hope to the international tourism community and Moroccan tourism operators in particular, especially since this signature coincides with the start of the vaccination campaign in the Kingdom, but also around the world.
