Morocco’s Tomato Exports to EU Surge 10%, Reaching 426 Million Kilos

Between October 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019, Morocco exported 426.07 million kilos of tomatoes to the European Union (EU). These exports are up significantly compared to the previous year.
Morocco sold 426.07 million kilos of tomatoes to the European Union (EU) between October 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019, an increase of 10.41% compared to the previous year, when sales volume reached 385.88 million kilos, according to the Statistics Service, Euroestacom (ICEX-Eurostat).
This increase is also observed in terms of revenue. EU member states paid Morocco 481.17 million euros (nearly 5 billion dirhams), an increase of 20.01% compared to the previous season.
In retail, the EU paid Morocco 1.13 euros per kilo, compared to 1.04 euros per kilo in the previous season, for the purchase of tomatoes.
France is the largest consumer of Moroccan tomatoes, with a volume of 288.15 million kilos purchased during the 2018-2019 period, an increase of 7.76% compared to the previous season, when purchases amounted to 267.38 million kilos, according to the agricultural media Hortoinfo.
As for Spain, purchases of Moroccan tomatoes reached a total volume of 59.35 million kilos during this period, an increase of 26.52% compared to the previous period (46.91 million kilos sold), the Spanish media specifies.
