Morocco's Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway Project Faces Delays, Minister Urges Action

The Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara, called on the stakeholders to make up for the delay observed in the construction of the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway. Delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A meeting had brought together, on Monday, the minister and the stakeholders. During this meeting, Mr. Amara insisted on the importance of making up for the delay observed in the construction of certain road sections. Similarly, the minister instructed the companies in charge of the work to build a number of important intersections between the expressway and a number of road sections.

With a total cost of around 10 billion dirhams, this mega-project has nevertheless made some progress. The progress rate of the first section connecting the south of Tiznit to Sidi Bounaâmane over 37 km is 49%, that connecting Sidi-Bounaâmane to Anga (province of Sidi-Ifni) over a distance of 39 km is around 12% at the end of July. The sections between Andja and Guelmim (38.8 km) and between Guelmim and Zrouila (22.6 km) recorded progress rates of 13% and 92% respectively.

The construction of the Tiznit-Dakhla road is part of the new development model for the southern provinces of the kingdom. King Mohammed VI had launched this new model in Laâyoune in November 2015. The realization of this expressway of more than 1,000 km will make it possible to constantly strengthen the economic and commercial ties between Morocco and its African depth and to improve the national road safety indices.
