Morocco Tightens Security at Ceuta Border Amid Social Media Migration Calls

Following information relayed on social networks, the Moroccan authorities have reinforced their presence around the Sebta border crossing and the surrounding coastal areas.
These measures come in response to calls for the organization of mass migrations of minors and young people during the New Year, particularly from the interior of the country and the regions of sub-Saharan Africa. These calls have spread on Facebook and WhatsApp, encouraging migration to Ceuta.
The cities of Tétouan, M’diq, Fnideq and Martil, over the past three years, have seen their security devices strengthened, including increased monitoring of communications, particularly on WhatsApp. This approach aims to prevent any attempt at mass entry into the city of Ceuta towards the end of December, similar to the events that occurred during the transition to the year 2021/2022. The end-of-year celebrations are therefore marked by specific security measures to counter illegal migration to the city of Sebta.
In addition, security patrols are traveling along several road axes and checkpoints are being erected. These measures are coordinated with local authorities, auxiliary forces and security bodies, with the aim of preventing any potential infiltration and closely monitoring suspicious movements and gatherings.
To recall, the night of December 31, 2021 was marked by the influx of many young people and adolescents towards the city of Sebta, with a view to illegally entering Sebta.
