Morocco Tightens Gun Control Laws with New Firearms Legislation

Morocco has decided to modernize its legal arsenal related to firearms. A bill to this effect was adopted on Thursday by the government.
Meeting in Council, the government examined several files, including the one relating to the draft law on firearms, their parts, components, elements, accessories and ammunition.
The objective is to provide Morocco with a legal framework that is in line with the various technological and technical changes in this field, said the government spokesperson.
The text aims to specify the scope of application of the draft law by subjecting to its articles hunting and shooting weapons, manual protection pistols, traditional weapons, air weapons, special weapons marking the start of sports competitions, as well as the parts of these weapons, their components, elements, accessories and ammunition.
It should be noted that the new provision does not take into account traditional weapons, which remain governed by the legislative and regulatory texts relating to the organization of explosive products, emphasized Mustapha Baitas.
