Morocco Tightens Control Over Ceuta Border, Sparking Tension with Spain

While the Moroccan and Spanish Interior Ministers, Abdelouafi Laftit and Fernando Marlaska, were pleased with their excellent relationship during their meeting in Rabat, the media in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta are outraged at the latter for not having mentioned the anarchic situation at the border crossing.
A situation that the newspaper El Faro de Ceuta describes as intolerable, knowing that the fate of the border crossing depends entirely on the measures set by Morocco. The latter, the sole master on board, and the only one to decide "on the fine weather and the rain", outside any Spanish intervention.
The Moroccan authorities not only impose the conduct to be followed on the Guardia civil elements, whose role has been reduced to easing traffic, but also the organization of traffic and the waiting time of transit passengers, including Spaniards residing in Morocco.
In addition, adds the local newspaper, the opening and closing of the passage for pedestrians and motorists strictly respect the instructions of the Moroccan authorities who even decide when to leave the parking lots within the enclave.
