Morocco Tightens Border Controls, Cutting Fish Supply to Spanish Enclave Ceuta

Ceuta merchants fear the extension of Moroccan restrictions to fruits and vegetables, after being deprived of fish.
These measures to restrict the passage of Moroccan fish to Ceuta have been in place since February 10, reports the Spanish press.
According to a merchant in the market of this Spanish enclave, the arrival of Moroccan fish has dropped by 80% in the last 15 days and this situation is likely to last.
According to a Maghreb businessman, there are very few boats leaving for the sea in Ceuta. He is saddened that he, like his colleagues, did not plan a Plan B for this situation. According to him, Moroccan fish is much more varied and cheaper.
Luckier than some of his colleagues, a fish seller shows certain stores that had to close. "For now, I’m holding on, but I can’t deny that it’s affecting the business," he said. He also raises another concern: "Now we’re afraid the same thing will happen with fruits and vegetables."
