Morocco Boosts Airport Security Amid Lithium Battery Explosion Concerns

Moroccan authorities have put in place precautionary measures at all airports in the kingdom in the face of the risks of lithium battery explosions.
Due to the situation in Lebanon where dozens of people were recently killed, thousands injured and nearly 300 in critical condition after an attack caused by the explosion of communication devices, the Moroccan authorities have decided to strengthen precautionary measures at all airports in the kingdom, according to Al3omk.
These measures consist of thorough inspection, before boarding, of mobile phones and other electronic devices equipped with lithium batteries that could explode, it is specified, stressing that they aim to prevent terrorism and organized crime and will not have an impact on passenger traffic.
Sources told the Al Mayadeen channel that the devices that exploded in Lebanon had a piece called "IC" (Integrated Circuit) containing explosive substances "that are not detectable by standard control devices, [...] because they were hidden by specific algorithms for this operation".
"The explosion was triggered by a short message sent to the device with advanced technology, thus activating the hidden explosive substance. It was not the pager battery that generated the explosive wave, but the lithium material that powered the device when the message triggering the explosion was received," the same sources explain, adding that Israeli intelligence would be behind this attack.
