Morocco’s Taxi Fleet Modernization Surges: Over 7,000 Vehicles Renewed in 2020

In 2020, around 7,130 taxis were renewed thanks to the renewal of the subsidy program. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the renewal saw a 233% jump compared to 2019.
Despite this good performance recorded in 2020, it must be said that the program slowed down in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The program is currently aiming for a renewal of more than 45,000 vehicles. But the Ministry of the Interior, which directly supervises the operation, reveals several constraints that disrupt its smooth running. Most of the renewal applications filed do not succeed, because they do not meet the required conditions, reports fnh.ma.
Other causes also come into play and prevent the success of the program: some beneficiaries of permits or vehicle owners have died and the presence of several minor heirs does not allow for a single interlocutor. Moreover, the law does not allow taxis to be operated in the form of a company, specifies the same source.
